The LÉT hosted or organized several events this past year. The year began with gifts being given from the remaining items that had been donated for the Christmas benevolence program but for one reason or another had not yet been distributed. Thanks to local donations and to a special contribution from the Green Valley church of Christ, many families in the Szolnok area received help.
In March, Anessa and Alina Westbrook visited Szolnok. During this time, Anessa taught a ladies seminar on the Gospel of John. Several women attended from Szolnok and Miskolc. Alina, who was returning to her birthplace for the first time since 2003, also enjoyed seeing the town she once called home as well as her Hungarian brothers and sisters in Christ.
The summer camp continued strong this past July. Hungarian teens, parents, and grandparents all came to the LÉT to register for the camp and to ask questions. Each year the LÉT is proud to provide a place for parents to seek out information and to turn in registration forms. Although the LÉT serves as a silent partner in the summer camps, the LÉT assists in the preparations for several months leading up to the camp. We value our role in assisting the missionaries and the church in any way we can to help campers, parents, and campaigners have a wonderful experience each summer. This past summer, 166 kids from 9 to 19 years of age enrolled in the camp.
In August, Dena Moore, a B.Min. student at Harding University, spent a few days in Szolnok as part of her practicum at Harding. While there, she also taught a ladies class on James that the LÉT organized.
Eddie and Carol Hendrix returned to Hungary at the invitation of Michael Shuttlesworth to hold a seminar entitled ”The Journey to Spiritual Maturity.” The lectures were recorded and are now on CD in the LÉT’s library. The recording includes Hungarian interpretation. The seminar was held over 4 days, and attendance ranged from 10 to 19 people.
One bit of exciting news that happened in Szolnok was that one of the ladies who has been attending church events and LÉT seminars for a number of years was baptized. Her name is Julia, and it is always a blessing when souls are added to the Lord’s church!
In addition to the seminars and camps, the LÉT has continued to participate in weekly activities. The church uses the LÉT’s facilities for Bible studies as well and weekly meetings. The clothes distribution has continued on a weekly basis for most weeks out of the year. Judit Farkas, the office manager of the LÉT, has organized what she calls the Csere-Bere Club. This club consists of ladies who promise to bring back clothes that are in good condition after they do not need them anymore. For years now, these families and others have received free clothes, but they have also returned what they no longer need so that someone else may use them instead. The Csere-Bere Club has formed a nice community for these ladies, giving them a closer connection to the church in Szolnok, which is a major goal for all of the LÉT’s projects. In this past summer camp, 11 children from our Csere-Bere families attended the camp on scholarship.
The LÉT board would like to thank everyone who has helped keep our operations going during this past year. Because of a low dollar value coupled with too little support at the beginning of the year, we experienced some very difficult months. We greatly value each dollar given to the LÉT, and we pray that our supporters are confident that by their support they are investing in an important portion of God’s mission in Hungary.
